Founded in 2009, Urban Charter Schools Collective (UCSC) is a charter management organization designed to demonstrate the power of body-brain compatible approaches in education. Currently, UCSC operates one K-6 elementary school, Yav Pem Suab Academy (YPSA), which partners with Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) as its authorizer.
YPSA was created to address student underachievement, with a special focus on the Hmong population in Sacramento. UCSC’s founders saw the startling student data from this community and knew a body-brain compatible approach could empower these scholars and help them to truly learn and thrive. Through this approach and UCSC’s values, YPSA has gained significant traction in scholar achievement indicators, and UCSC is committed to continuing to drive this momentum.
As UCSC turns its focus to the future, this strategic plan sets the course for how the organization will continue to evolve over the next five years, continually seeking opportunities to deploy, measure, and strengthen body-brain compatible approaches and supporting scholars to excel in school and life.
OUR PURPOSE All scholars and staff learn, thrive, and contribute to creating a more just society.
